Callum quietly opened the back door leading into the kitchen and crept softly as he entered. The red laser beam reflected off the walls, chairs, and cabinets as he looked around. Cleo wasn’t in the place he had seen her.

His breathing was heavier and faster and the palms of his hands wet with nervous sweat and just as he was about to exit the kitchen, he felt something prod at his back.

He spun around.

“Cleo,” he said in a loud whisper.

“Callum?”

“Back to back. Get into position. If you see so much as a rat move, kill it.”
