Chapter 44

β€œSeeing you like this? Yeah, babe, I'm enjoying myself,” Cedric smirked and shrugged the woman's hand off him and turned his head towards her. β€œI told you three fucking times I had a woman. I even explained where she was in here. Sitting next to my sister, at the bar.”

β€œAnd yet, you didn't complain that I was talking to you,” the girl grinned, raised her bright purple polished hand and tossed her hair over her shoulder.

β€œAnd you thought that meant I was interested in you?” Cedric chuckled coldly and narrowed his eyes at her. β€œI am a cop, I don't make it a habit of shoving women away from me. If my woman hadn't walked her sweet ass over here, I would have made you move if you kept on trying to flirt with me.”

Does he think I have a sweet ass?

I mean, he has shown me several times that he did, in fact, think I had a sweet booty, but hearing him admit that to a random woman has me holding my head up a little higher.

β€œYou can move it along now, sweetie,” I informed her, and grinned.

β€œFuck you, bitch, and take this one with you,” the red head that was sitting on Lucas's lap screeched, and shoved me backward so fast I didn't have time to brace before I stumbled back a few steps.

β€œOh no, you did not just do that,” Anna shouted, grabbed the red head by her hair and hauled her backwards. I watched as Anna slammed her body against the booth. β€œYou do not touch my best friend.”

β€œFuck you cunt,” the woman who was flirting with Cedric yelled and lifted her palm to slap Anna, but I was quicker. I raised my fist and punched her right in the face.

β€œYou do not hit my best friend cunt,” I snarled, as Cedric had enough of our little drama, wrapped his arms around me, picked me up, and dragged me back several steps. β€œLet me go,” I ordered him.

β€œBabe, as hot as I thought that was, I'd hate to arrest my girlfriend for disturbing the peace if someone called it in.”

β€œYou wouldn't.” I dismissed his threat and struggled to get out of his arms when I saw the red head snarl into Anna's face, but thank goodness Lucas was ready and got in between them.

β€œWe both know I would.”

β€œWow,” I whispered, annoyed because he was right. He totally freaking would.

Arrogant cop.

β€œEnough,” Lucas roared and faced the two random women. β€œYou two ladies need to get the hell out.”

β€œThey started it,” the one that was all over Cedric shouted, and stood beside her equally slutty looking companion. β€œWe are not leaving.”

β€œWhat in the hell is going on?” Conor growled as he walked up and joined our little circle.

β€œThey started it,” the red head whined, and raised her hands and pointed her fingers toward me and Anna.

β€œTechnically, you put your hands on me first and my friend was just defending me,” I shrugged and glanced at Conor, giving him an innocent look.

β€œYeah? That's why you broke my martini glass before walking up over here?”

β€œUm-”

β€œShe did?” Cedric asked and grinned.

Crap.

I was hoping I didn't crack it.

β€œI don't think I did,” I stated, peered up at Cedric and shook my head. β€œI didn't.”

β€œYou did.” Conor said, and held up the damaged glass, showing the evidence that I did indeed intend to start something.

β€œShe just sat it down a little too hard accidentally,” Anna jerked her arm out of Lucas's hold and informed Conor.

β€œAnd you think I'm going to believe you?” He asked her and raised his eyebrow. β€œI just saw you drag that woman by her hair.”

β€œShe put her hands on Avery first. I was just returning the favor,” Anna shrugged, and smiled. β€œWe don't have to take shit from bitches just because they are trying to get into your friend's pants, Conor.”

β€œBitch was not getting into my pants,” Cedric snarled at me and shot me a serious look, daring me not to believe him.

β€œCalm down.” I giggled and patted his chest. β€œI know.”

β€œLeave, or I'll have you both removed.” Conor confronted the two women, who were now drooling over him.

β€œWhat? This is bullshit. Why don't you make them leave?” The red head shouted, and swung her ugly oversized brown purse over her shoulder.

β€œOne is my best friend's sister, and the other is his girl. Sorry, that won't be happening. Leave now, or I'll call the cops.”

β€œWe are the cops,” Cedric smirked. β€œI have handcuffs in my truck, though I'm thinking about saving that for my girl tonight.”

β€œCedric,” I whispered, embarrassed, heat rising inside me as my cheeks started to feel hot.

Handcuffs?

Yes, please.

β€œI'm about to not be a cop,” Lucas reminded him and then quickly added. β€œBro, we didn't need to hear that,” he chuckled, and then I remembered the pain my best friend was feeling because of him.

Asshole.

β€œWhatever,” one of the girls snapped, and they both ended up walking away, none of us even paying them any attention.

β€œI'd appreciate it if you girls kept it calm for the rest of the night,” Conor laughed and then disappeared in the crowd of people on the dance floor.

β€œI'm always calm,” Anna shouted out, raged that he would even suggest she was anything other than calm. β€œI'm very calm all the time, even when I shouldn't be,” she then snapped and headed towards the bar, knocking her shoulder into Lucas hard, and I just feel she did that on purpose.

β€œWhat's her deal?” Lucas demanded, rubbing his shoulder, and his eyes followed her as she walked away with a confused frown on his lips.

β€œOh, you know, people say and do shit when they are drunk. Say things they don't mean. Do something that's going to hurt the other person. Things they won't remember in the morning. You know?” I asked him and watched as the confusion only grew on his face, and I knew at that moment that he absolutely did not remember their night together years ago.

Freaking great.

I don't even know which one Anna would prefer right now. If he remembered and didn't talk about it, that would just mean he used her.

On the other hand, if he didn't remember, was it the alcohol and him looking for a good time and didn't actually mean what he said to her?

This is so confusing, and now I completely understand why Anna is still upset about it years later.

At least he wasn't being an asshole about it.

β€œBabe what?” Cedric asked, equally confused and looked at Lucas, who just shrugged his shoulders.

β€œI don't know. I'm drunk,” I lied, stood up on my tip toes, kissed Cedric on his cheek and went to find my best friend.

β€œYou barely drank,” Cedric shouted at my back, but I didn't look back.

I didn't even mean to say anything to Lucas, it had just slipped out in the heat of the moment, wanting to be supportive and defend Anna.

It really wasn't my place to mention anything at all and now both Cedric and Lucas must think I'm losing my mind because I just made little sense to either of them.

β€œAre you okay,” I asked Anna when I finally found her crying in the women's bathroom. I leaned over the sink, grabbed a napkin, and handed it to her.

β€œYeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry. Tonight was supposed to be about you having fun, and I'm a complete mess. I don't know what's wrong with me. It's hard seeing Lucas letting women be all over him, and he doesn't even remember we had sex.”

β€œWell, I may have said something,-”

β€œWhat did you say?” She whispered, eyes wide as she blew her nose, her cheeks bright red and mascara running down her face.

β€œNothing about what you told me, I promise,” I quickly informed her before she thought I had betrayed her trust.” After you knocked into his shoulder, he asked what your problem was,”

β€œAnd?”

β€œI said, well sometimes drunk people do and say things they either mean or don't mean and then don't remember it the next day,” I winced and hoped she would not get mad about me opening up my mouth.

I know I told Cedric I was drunk as an excuse for my little rant back there, but I'm stone-cold sober, right now anyway. I have a feeling I won't be in about an hour from now because Anna looks like she can knock back a few more, and I'll join her.

β€œDid he say anything?”

β€œHe just looked confused," I told her honestly. β€œI don't think he remembers, sweetie.”

β€œI don't know whether that makes me feel better or not,” she sighed and grabbed another napkin, turned the sink on, and fixed her makeup.

β€œLet's just forget about our man drama for a little while and have a bestie night like we had planned. We can play pool,” I smirked and watched as she grinned.

β€œWe are getting better,” she giggled.

β€œPractice makes perfect.”
