Saying Goodbye to My Troubles (Nydia and Mick)

Chapter Saying Goodbye To My Troubles 39

Chapter 39

At Deathly Knight Club, Buck brought out a bottle of rare wine he'd been saving and poured. Mick a generous glass.

He saw Mick holding a tablet and browsing through profiles of hostesses. The women were seductive figures, and their ambitions were written all over their faces. Mick usually wouldn't bother to pay these women a glance.

"Are you picking a hostess tonight?" Buck leaned in and slyly pointed out. "There's this new girl who's very innocent and easy to deal with."

Mick tossed the tablet aside and rubbed his temples. "You handle it."

Buck waved a staff over to make the arrangements. Then, he asked with a teasing wink, Should I call Nydia now? If she knows you're out drinking with a hostess, she'd cry.

Mick's face darkened, and the glass of wine in his hand trembled slightly. The crimson wine splattered against the glass walls. "You have too much time on your hands, right?"

"What? Isn't all of this part of your plan? Didn't you pick out hostesses just to provoke Nydia into coming back to you?"

"Why would I want her back?" Mick's expression turned gloomier. The oppressive atmosphere seemed to suck out the warmth in the room.

"Come on. She already brought you food. Isn't she softening up? And you're still holding out? "Buck was clearly baffled.

Ever since Nydia had left, Mick's life had been a mess. Whenever they attended negotiations or public events, he noticed Mick's suits seemed poorly coordinated.

He'd even sent a stylist to help, but it hadn't made much difference.

After Ted fell ill, Mick became even more occupied that Buck and the rest of the circle were

sidelined.

Of course, that wasn't what mattered most. What did matter was the business deal currently at its crucial stage. As Mick had been out for two days, the other party was considering switching partners.

Buck couldn't help but miss the days when Nydia had been around. Back then, they'd never

been in such chaos.

"Why should I forgive her just because she's softening up? Does she even deserve it?" Mick retorted.

Buck was taken aback. "So, how long are you planning to let this go on?" he asked.

"I've never planned to forgive her. You think the divorce is just for show?" Mick chugged down his wine. The bitterness lingered in his mouth.

Buck couldn't tell if he was bluffing, but the chosen hostess had entered the room. She was attractive, but she looked timid as if she'd never been in such an environment.

Buck skimmed through her profile. "Mick, this one is just here part-time."

Then, he lowered his voice and added, "Apparently, she's from the mountains. She's just here paying for tuition, so don't push her too hard."

Something stirred in Mick's mind. He asked, "Is it hard to make it out of the mountains?"

The lady's eyes reddened at the seemingly simple question. She nodded and replied, "It is. I have a younger brother, and if I didn't escape fast enough, they would've married me off to a fool in the neighboring village." Mick frowned. "Your parents didn't want you to go to college?"

The lady started dripping tears as she began recounting the hardships of life in the mountains.

Education resources were scarce, and they usually went to boys. It was incredibly challenging for girls to stand out.

Most girls started working in fields at the age of four or five, and when they grew older, they'd have to do heavier labor. When they reached a certain age, they were often forced into marriage.
