Chapter 104 Avery Didn't Bother to Talk Nonsense With Her
Layla thought Avery's question was ridiculous, so she asked, "Do you think he is your son?"
"If you were his mother, you wouldn't have been so indifferent. He has an allergy and fell, but you didn't protect or comfort him. Instead, you falsely accused me. Don't you have the sting of conscience?" Layla retorted, "Don't think you can make Jacob change his mind by slandering me. I gave birth to Ethan in front of him. So, he knows Ethan is my son."
Avery didn't bother to talk nonsense with her. It was proved that Layla was unsuitable to be a mother.
After Ethan's nanny came over with water, Avery unbuttoned his shirt and used a towel to wipe him. It must be unbearably itchy, so he should have been crying and fussing. But unexpectedly, he quieted down, intently stared at her with his big black eyes, and tightly held her clothes with one hand. He seemed afraid of nothing when she was by his side.
"Stop! What are you doing to my son?"
Layla disagreed with the cold compress.
Avery coldly glanced at her and said, "Cold compress can constrict blood vessels and reduce the itching. He is uncomfortable. If he scratches, the allergic area will expand. And it may cause a high fever." Layla wanted to refute her words, but Jacob coldly snapped, "Shut up."
Avery had never heard him speak to Layla like this during the past two years. Layla felt so aggrieved that she soon started to make trouble again.
"I have always been careful with Ethan's diet. How could he have an allergy for no reason? What did he eat?"
A maid replied, "He ate half a piece of the honey cake baked by Miss Adams."
Layla widened her eyes and said, "Avery, you are cruel! You know he is allergic to honey, but you gave him a piece of honey cake!"
Avery said in surprise, "Is he allergic to honey?"
She had not expected Ethan to be allergic to honey like her.
"Stop pretending! You came to ask me for Adams Mansion and offered to make a cake to please me. You are a guest, so I didn't drive you out. Unexpectedly, you planned to kill my son. If you hate me, you should attack me! How could you hurt a child? Don't you have a conscience? Jacob, look at my neck! She attempted to kill me, too!"
Layla knew Jacob cared about Ethan the most, so Avery had violated his taboo. If she passed the buck to Avery, he would not blame her for what had happened.
Avery finally knew why Layla had asked her to make a honey cake. She had been plotting against her from the beginning. Even if Avery ruined her face as requested, the latter would not give her Adams Mansion! Layla was a cunning woman who used her son to scheme against people so she would not keep her word!
At the thought of this, Avery felt more sympathetic to Ethan. Judging from Layla's actions, Avery knew she was not a qualified mother.
Jacob did not defend Layla as usual but sternly said, "Shut up! You have been blaming others since I came in. But you have not shown any care for Ethan. You don't deserve to be his mother." Jacob then glanced at her clothes. She wore white peep toe slippers, and the half-painted nails looked disgusting.
"Jacob, I..."
"Get out! I don't want to see you."
Jacob did not want to help her save face. He thought he was merciful because he didn't beat her to death on the spot.
