Chapter 1616
Halfway through, the middle-aged man, who had surrendered himself, got off the train. Perhaps he went to turn himself into the police.
On the other hand, Tang Yuanyuan had leaned back on the chair; she was wide awake until they reached their stop.
After exiting the train station, she took off the jacket that was on her and returned it to Yuchi Yishu.
Throughout the entire journey, her shirt had dried up, so she no longer needed to wear his jacket.
Yuchi Yishu reached out to receive his jacket and placed the jacket over his shoulders. “We can just take the cab since we’re still some ways away from your school.”
“It’s okay, Yishu. You don’t have to send me back; I can return to school by myself.”
“I’ve already called a cab. It’ll be here soon.”
In fact, he had already booked a cab when they had almost reached the train station and had already organized everything. Yuchi Yishu proceeded to tap on Tang Yuanyuan’s shoulders and said, “Let’s go; I’ll send you over to your school.”
“But Yishu, don’t you have class in the afternoon? If you send me back, wouldn’t you be late for class?”
“No, I won’t. Don’t worry.”
In the end, Yuchi Yishu managed to send Tang Yuanyuan back to school safely.
“Go on ahead, and take these things with you.”
“Okay. Thank you, Yishu. You should hurry back to your class too.”
Yuchi Yishu smiled gently. “I’ll see you off.”
As she walked back, Tang Yuanyuan kept turning back until she returned to her dormitory. Once Yuchi Yishu couldn’t see Tang Yuanyuan anymore, he left.
Because the class was about to start, there was not a single person in the dormitory. Tang Yuanyuan could only put the things back in the dormitory first before she headed for class.
Tang Yuanyuan managed to hurry to her class at the last minute. Her desk mate saw that she was covered in sweat and asked, “Yuanyuan, where have you been the entire afternoon? Why have you only returned now?”
Tang Yuanyuan stuck her tongue out and whispered, “I had something to do just now, so I went out. I’ve just returned to school.”
“You’d be late if you came in any later since the teacher is about to start the class soon.”
She was right; if Tang Yuanyuan was just a little bit later, she would have been called out by her teacher. Fortunately, she made it on time.
After their class, Tang Yuanyuan suddenly thought of the presents that were left at the dormitory and needed to return to give Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan an explanation.
She hurriedly packed her books and went back to their dormitory.
Just when she had arrived at the dormitory, Tang Yuanyuan noticed that both Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan had already returned and were applying face masks. Seeing that Tang Yuanyuan had returned, both of them then displeasedly questioned her, “Yuanyuan, we saw you taking the gifts out just now. Why are the gifts back here again?”
Tang Yuanyuan felt a little awkward and said, “I’m sorry. I did pass Yishu your gifts, but he didn’t want to accept them.”
“What? Why didn’t he accept the gifts?”
Yuan Yuehan immediately stood up. She was agitated to the point where her mask almost fell off.
She had only calmed down when Zhang Xiaolu glanced at her.
“Yuanyuan, did Yishu not want the gifts, or did you not help deliver them to him? Honestly, you don’t have to worry at all. Someday, one of us might become your sister-in-law, and even so, we wouldn’t rob him away from you. We will treat you as well as how Yishu treats you and by then, you would have an additional person to spoil you.”
Another person to spoil her? She didn’t want that at all.
But of course, Tang Yuanyuan did not speak those words.
She only explained in a serious tone, “When I promised you that I’ll help you deliver your gifts, I actually did it. I will never break my promise. I had walked for a long time just now, but Yishu said that he wouldn’t accept gifts from anyone.”
“Why is that?”
Tang Yuanyuan thought of Zhang Xiaolu’s question. She then pursed her lips and said, “There are just too many girls who want to give Yishu gifts. It’d be impossible for him to accept all the gifts; so, if he were to accept only one person’s gift, it would be unfair to the others. That’s why he doesn’t accept anyone’s gifts.”
Zhang Xiaolu did not believe what she said. “Did he say all that himself?”
Tang Yuanyuan clenched onto the hem of her shirt. “Chufeng told me this.”
“The guy that’s always with Yishu?”
Zhang Xiaolu narrowed her eyes as she recalled that Zhong Chufeng was indeed a very talkative person. He even invited them for supper the other night and whenever that fellow saw Tang Yuanyuan, his eyes would shine brightly and his intentions would become obvious.
What Tang Yuanyuan said was probable if Zhong Chufeng was the one that said those words.
Zhang Xiaolu gave her a light smile and asked, “Was Yishu by his side when Zhong Chufeng said those words?”
Tang Yuanyuan nodded. “Yes, Yishu heard everything. All of it.”
“And he didn’t say anything? Or did you not help put in some good words for us? It’s okay if he doesn’t accept other people’s gifts, but we’re not strangers to him. Since he spoils you a lot, can’t you help us to put in a good word?”
“That’s right Yuanyuan.” Yuan Yuehan added, “Your brother looks like a cold-hearted person. Is it because he doesn’t like communicating with other people? Can you please help us by putting in a good word for us? We mean no harm at all; we just like him.”
Their words put Tang Yuanyuan in a difficult position; her lips moved a little and she helplessly said, “I’m sorry but I’ve already helped you deliver the gifts. However, my brother just won’t accept them and I can’t help you any further.”
Upon finishing her sentence, Tang Yuanyuan added, “But if you really don’t believe me, you can deliver the gifts yourselves next time.”
“I’d like to go for a jog now, so I’ll be going off.” Tang Yuanyuan left the dormitory before waiting for the both of them to reply.
Before Yuan Yuehan and Zhang Xiaolu could call out to her, Tang Yuanyuan had already run out.
“What was that all about?” Zhang Xiaolu felt exasperated as she kicked over the gifts. “She thinks she can be arrogant just because she’s his sister? She’s already this crazy when she isn’t even related to him. Imagine if she were actually related to him; wouldn’t she be even more domineering?”
Yuan Yuehan remained silent.
With a pale look, she stared at Zhang Xiaolu and softly said, “Could it be that Yishu really doesn’t accept gifts at all. Just think about it; she carried our gifts all the way to find his brother after class. The time she took to visit him and return was long and when she came back, she was almost late to class.”
“What about it?” Zhang Xiaolu stared at her in an amused manner. “Yuehan, how can you be so easily fooled by her? She indeed carried the gifts with her when she went out, but did you witness her passing the gifts to him? She could have made up all those stories.”
Yuan Yuehan answered, “I don’t think she would do something like that. She seems like an honest person and a pushover.”
“Maybe this is just her outer appearance? She might be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Perhaps she likes Yuchi Yishu too, so she pretended to be his sister to keep all the girls away from him.”
“Is that so?” Yuan Yuehan may have hated Meng Kefei, but she did not share this disdain for Tang Yuanyuan. Although she disliked Tang Yuanyuan, she didn’t regard her as an enemy like Zhang Xiaolu did.
After all, they had interacted for more than a semester and she could roughly guess her character.
“Yuehan, are you doubting my judgment? If you don’t believe me, why don’t you try delivering the gifts to her brother yourself?”
“I think I will. If it’s really like what you said—that she wasn’t willing to help us—then it’ll be better off sending it ourselves.”
“Talk is cheap, Yuehan. You don’t even know where he studies.”
“Isn’t that easy to bypass? We’ll invite Yuanyuan out for a meal and have her bring along Yishu. By then, we can pass him the gifts in front of everyone.”
