Chapter 40
Yale and Madrigal waited until nine o'clock in the evening before Zoe came back. As usual, Yale immediately prepared slippers and tea for him.
But Madrigal was not as smart as her mother. "Dad, what happened to the city construction project?"
"What?" Zoe was about to drink tea, but he put down the cup in his hand.
"Madrigal is being anxious. You know, Quarmy has been preparing for it for a long time, and Jenny has been calling Madrigal to ask about the reason, but Madrigal doesn't know how to answer her." Yale said. Zoe sneered. "Why did Jenny ask you for the reason? The bidding is a matter of the municipal party committee. What do you, an ordinary person, know?"
Zoe was unhappy to hear Jenny's name so he said it in an impolite manner. Madrigal didn't know what to say after being asked by him. Yale quickly explained, "She may want to get some information from you..."
"The bidding is carried out in a fair and just way. If she has any questions, she can question the City Construction Bureau and the municipal party committee, she will be answered by a special person. Why did she ask you guys?"
Zoe was not a fool. He knew exactly what Jenny was up to. She liked Madrigal because of his position. Everyone knew that Mayor Jane's daughter was Quarmy's girlfriend. But three years had passed, Quarmy didn't mention the engagement with Madrigal. If he didn't come personally to talk to Jenny this time, he didn't know when they would be engaged.
Zoe was angry when he thought of this. If Madrigal had not been pregnant with Quarmy's child and was obsessed with him, he would never agree to their marriage.
The Huo Family had already ruined one of his daughters. Did they still want to ruin the other? The most important thing was that people should not be too greedy. Quarmy had gotten more than half of the projects of Jiang City. Did he have to hold all of them in his hands? Did he give others a chance to live?
"Don't be angry, Zoe! I'm sorry." Seeing Zoe's angry face, Yale hurriedly smiled and reached out to massage his shoulders. "Did you encounter something unhappy today?"
"No!" Zoe softened his tone and looked at Madrigal. "Jenny is not a good person. She used to be so vicious to Moni, and she may not be sincere to you. As for Quarmy, he is also not a good person. If they are dissatisfied with you because of the city construction, I think there is no need for you to marry him. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Why are you so obsessed with him?"
"Quarmy didn't say anything. Madrigal was worried so she wanted to ask you about the situation."
"Do you think I'm a fool?" Zoe sneered. "I know that love is not something that can be controlled. I just want to remind Madrigal that if Quarmy agrees to be engaged to you because of the project, have you ever thought about that will he still want you without me? I can't hold an important position all my life. If I don't take office, can you guarantee that your marriage will not be the same as Moni's?"
Madrigal lowered her head without saying a word, and Yale continued to explain. "Don't worry, Quarmy treats Madrigal well. Didn't he divorce Moni because she couldn't bear children? Madrigal can, so as long as she has children..."
Zoe sighed and looked at Madrigal. Monica's marriage with Quarmy did end because of it. If Monica could have children, things would have been different. He glanced at Yale. Their situation was also the same. If it weren't for Madrigal, he wouldn't have married Yale and let Monica be wronged.
He hoped Quarmy would be the same as himself!
