Chapter 1872
Yvette finally woke up, stifling a yawn as she replied, "Alright, give me ten minutes."
The two left the hotel shortly after, wandering along the bustling streets in search of a suitable shop. The foreign city's streets were lively, brimming with shops of every kind. Finally, they spotted a lingerie store tucked into a street corner. Karina pulled Yvette along inside, quickly selecting and trying on several items until she found ones that fit. Just as Karina was about to pay and leave, her phone buzzed loudly. She glanced at the screen-Wilfred was calling. With a quick tap, she answered, and his low, steady voice came through.
"Where are you? I've been waiting in the hotel lobby. We're scheduled to meet with the representatives from HeShare Pharmaceuticals soon, and we're running out of time."
Karina's heart skipped a beat as she realized how long they had been gone. She quickly replied, "We're just finishing up at a shop near the hotel. Sorry for the delay! We'll head back right away." Hanging up, she grabbed Yvette and dashed out of the store. They sprinted back toward the hotel, wind tugging at their hair and beads of sweat forming on their foreheads.
From a distance, Karina spotted Wilfred standing in the lobby, his tall frame upright and exuding an air of quiet authority. Despite his composed demeanor, he glanced at his watch more than once, betraying his impatience. Karina hurried toward him, slightly out of breath, her cheeks flushed from running.
"I'm so sorry, Dr. Wilfred," she said, her voice tinged with guilt. "We didn't mean to keep you waiting."
Wilfred's furrowed brows eased as his eyes took in her flushed face and the stray strands of hair falling across her forehead. Whatever annoyance he might have felt seemed to dissipate.
"It's fine. Let's go! The car's outside," he said calmly.
Yvette trailed behind, sneaking a glance at Wilfred. She couldn't help but notice how his usual composed demeanor seemed to shift slightly when Karina was involved. Interesting, she thought with a smirk.
The three of them quickly boarded the waiting car, heading toward HeShare Pharmaceuticals. Inside, the atmosphere was serious.
Karina quietly regulated her breathing and mentally reviewed the project details, preparing herself. Wilfred stared out the window, his expression stoic, lost in thought.
As they arrived, the sleek modern building came into view. The building's glass facade shimmered under the sunlight, reflecting a sharp, cold brilliance.
Entering the grand lobby, they were greeted by a receptionist who promptly led them to the conference room.
Inside, a long table was flanked by HeShare Pharmaceuticals's representatives. Leading the group was Benedict Lowe, the chairman's son-in-law. He was a sharp and polished man nearing forty, with the unmistakable shrewdness of a seasoned businessman.
Rising to greet them, he offered a handshake and a warm smile that felt carefully calibrated.
"Dr. Wilfred, I've heard so much about you. Thank you for making the trip-please, have a seat."
Wilfred nodded politely, exchanged a
few pleasantries, and took his seat, with Karina and Yvette following suit. After brief introductions, Benedict got straight to the point, gesturing for his assistant to distribute documents.
"We've invited your esteemed hospital to collaborate with us on advancing the clinical application and promotion of our new cancer drug. These documents contain detailed data from our recent trials. Please, take a look."
Karina took the file, her attention immediately drawn to the densely packed data. She leaned forward, fully engrossed as she scanned the pages, her brows occasionally, furrowing in thought. Jotting down notes with precision, she was entirely focused, determined not to miss a single detail.
